The Challenge : All-Stars (Season 1)

The first season of The Challenge: All Starsfeatures a daily challenge, nomination process and an elimination round
Daily Challenge: Players compete in the main challenge either individually or in teams. For team challenges, teams elect a male and female captain before the challenge begins. The winning player (for individual challenges), or winning team captain (for team challenges) of the designated gender is immune from elimination while the respective losing captain or player of the designated gender is automatically sent into the elimination round
Nominations: Players besides the captains of the winning and losing teams (for team challenges), or both individual winners and the last-place player (for individual challenges), participate in nominations to select a second player of the designated gender to compete in the elimination round. They are given a chance to discuss the nominations before voting in an open vote. The player who receives the most votes participates in the elimination round
Eliminations (The Arena): The nominated player participates in an elimination round against the same-gender captain of the losing team, or the last place player from the daily challenge depending on the structure of the daily challenge. The winner remains in the game while the loser is eliminated.

Starting at the 5th episode, it was announced that the remaining eliminations for the season would be double eliminations in which two players are eliminated. The losing male and female players, or captains, from the daily challenge form a team. The nominated player must then call-out a partner of the opposite gender to form their opponents for the elimination; the gender of the nominated player alternates each episode. The winning team remains in the game while the losing team is eliminated

Twists
Lifesaver: Implemented for the first four episodes, the winning player or winning team captain of the non-designated gender for the elimination round is granted the Lifesaver. At the Arena, they must choose whether or not to use the Lifesaver to save the nominated player from competing in the elimination. In the event that the Lifesaver is used, the players eligible to vote (this time excluding the saved nominee) must publicly vote to select a replacement nominee for the Arena

Additionally, the last pair to reach the second checkpoint is eliminated.

The first pair to complete each checkpoint receives 5 points each; second receives 4 points; third receives 3 points; fourth receives 2 points; fifth receives 1 point. After each checkpoint, members from the winning pair choose a player of the opposite gender (that they haven't already partnered with) as their partner for the next checkpoint. The process continues with the next-highest ranked players from the previous checkpoint choosing their teammate from the remaining unpaired players

Day One

  • Checkpoint #1: Players individually complete a triangular geometric puzzle. Once a male and female player complete their puzzle, they pair up and must paddle a canoe across a lake to the next checkpoint. The last team to reach the next checkpoint is eliminated.
    • Eliminated: Derrick & Jisela (11th place)
  • Checkpoint #2 & #3 (Part 1): Teams must assemble two bicycles and, while tethered together, ride them towards a puzzle board. At the puzzle board, they must solve two pentagram-shaped puzzles so that the numbers on the five points have the same sum.

If the player standing falls or steps off, they must switch places with their partner.
Day Two -

The Challenge : All-Stars (Season 2)

All-Stars 2 features a daily challenge, nomination process and an elimination round
Daily Challenge: Players compete in a main challenge either individually, in pairs or in teams. For team challenges, each team must select one male and one female representative before the challenge begins. The winning male and female (for individual challenges), winning pair (for pair challenges) or winning representatives (for team challenges) are immune from elimination and earn power for the round while respective losing players of each gender, losing pair or losing representatives of the last-place team are automatically sent into the Arena
Nominations: The daily challenge winners nominate two men and two women to potentially go into the elimination round. Players – excluding the daily challenge winners, daily challenge losers, four nominees and Life Shield holders if they used the Life Shield – must then publicly vote for one male and female to compete in the elimination round. The male and female who receive the most votes will participate in the elimination round
Eliminations (The Arena): The losers of the daily challenge compete in an individual elimination round against the nominated player of the same gender. The loser is eliminated while the winner remains in the game and earns the Life Shield for the next round of play

In the sixth episode, players were required to form male-female teams of two to compete in the "Deep Dive" challenge. After the challenge, it was revealed that players would compete in these teams for the remainder of the season. The winning team of the daily challenge is immune while the losing team is automatically sent into the Arena. The winners must nominate two teams where at nominations, eligible players would vote for one of these teams to compete in the Arena against the last-place team

Twists
Life Shield: The winning players or team of an elimination round are awarded with the Life Shield for the next cycle of the game. They may use the Life Shield to save themselves if they place last in the subsequent challenge, or save one of the nominees selected by the daily challenge winners. Players or teams are ineligible to vote for the respective cycle of the game if they elect to use the Life Shield
---If players use the Life Shield to save themselves as the losing representative in a team challenge, they must select a replacement player to compete in the Arena in their place. If teams use the Life Shield to save themselves after placing last in a challenge, the second-last team is sent to the Arena in their place
---If players use the Life Shield to save a nominee or nominated team, the winners of the daily challenge must select a replacement nominee in their place.

From episode 5, the Authority would be reduced to only the first-place male and female of each challenge and the format changed. The Authority had to collectively select one male and one female to compete in the Arena. At the Arena, the selected players must then call-out an opponent of the same gender to compete against them. The winners remain in the game while the losers are eliminated

Twists

During each leg, players race to the next checkpoint in male-female pairs. The first pair to reach each checkpoint receives 4 points each; second receives 3 points; third receives 2 points; fourth receives 1 point. At checkpoints, pairs are disbanded and players must select an opponent of the same gender to compete in the checkpoint against. The winner of each matchup receives 5 points while the loser receives none. The first, second, third and fourth-place players of each gender from the checkpoint are paired with the respective player of the opposite gender for the following leg.

Before commencing, it was announced that the players with the most Stars, Jonna and Nehemiah (5 stars each), would start the Final Challenge with 5 bonus points.

  • First leg: Pairs race down a runway and collect a key before proceeding to the first checkpoint on a beach. For this leg only, teams are formed based on placements in the "Wall of Fame" challenge and depart in 30-second intervals in the same order.
  • Checkpoint #1: Players use the key they collected to unlock wooden planks. They must use the planks to assemble a raft and paddle around a buoy before returning to shore. The first player in each matchup to return to shore wins.
  • Second leg: Pairs race to a tandem bicycle and ride it through the jungle to the next checkpoint.
  • Checkpoint #2: Players must run 400 metres (0.25 miles) to view and memorize an answer key consisting of four rows of nine colored stars. They must then return to their star sequence and determine which star in each row is different. The position of the different stars in each row forms the numbers to a four-digit code. The first player in each matchup to determine the code and use it to unlock a box wins.
  • Third leg: Pairs race to a beach, enter a tandem kayak and paddle across the water to the next checkpoint.
  • Checkpoint #3: Players begin on a floating platform. The first player to push their opponent off the platform and into the water in each matchup wins.

Day Two -

The following morning, it was announced that only six players would continue day two of the Final Challenge. The two players of each gender with the most points from day one would automatically advance while the remaining two players would compete against each other in an Instant Elimination for the final spot.

  • Instant Elimination: Throughout the season, the house contained a map depicting the locations of each Final Challenge of The Challenge. Players must fill out a crossword with the names of ten countries depicted on the map, with the specific locations given as clues. The first players to complete the crossword wins while the losers are eliminated.
    • Played by: Kailah vs. KellyAnne, Brad vs. Mark
    • Eliminated: KellyAnne (fourth place), Mark (fourth place)
  • Final leg: As individuals, players race through the jungle to the beach before finishing at the yacht from the Overnight Stage where a chest with the $500,000 is located. Along the way, they have to complete several challenges. At the first challenge, players must consume two pounds of various offal and insects before proceeding. At the second challenge, players must complete a pentagon-shaped puzzle before grabbing a surfboard and proceeding to the third challenge. At the third challenge, players must use wooden blocks to build a tower matching a given diagram. Once complete, players use their surfboard to paddle to the yacht offshore. • Checkpoint #5 (Pho King Trivia) and Overnight Stage: Each team begins with one large bowl of phö and several containers of off-putting ingredients such as chilli peppers and coconut worms. Each round, one team is asked a question about their partner. If they answer correctly, they can pour one of the ingredients into another team's bowl. However, if they answer incorrectly, they must pour one of the containers into their own bowl. After four rounds, teams must consume their entire bowl of phở using giant straws to complete the checkpoint. Afterwards, teams spend the night camping at the checkpoint site.
Day Two
  • Checkpoint #6 (High Tide): Teams must paddle a basket boat one mile down a river.
  • Checkpoint #7 (Shoulder the Load): Teams must use a Vietnamese carrying pole to collect water from a river and fill their team's cylinder.
  • Checkpoint #8 (Balance Them All): Teams must distribute 20 bags of varying weights, as well as their own bodyweights, on a see-saw until it balances out. Afterwards, the results of the Final Challenge are announced.
    • Split or Steal twist: After being declared the winners of the season, Adam and Steve both privately answer whether they believe their partner will split or steal the $250,000 prize. If they both answer that their partner would split the money, they both split the money and receive $125,000 each. If their answers do not match, a challenge is held to determine who receives the entire $250,000 prize
